Dhaka Community Hospital Trust, Community Initiative Society(CIS) and MERCY Malaysia Opens New Health Clinic in Jamtoli Camp 15 for Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMNs)

Dhaka Community Hospital Trust and Community Initiative Society (CIS) in collaboration with MERCY Malaysia to open a Comprehensive Primary Health Care Centre at Jamtoli Refugee camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh on Friday 01-02-2019.

The Influx of the Rohingya refugees from Myanmar is a major humanitarian crisis in Bangladesh. Since 12 September 2017, with the permission of the local authority, Dhaka  Community Hospital Trust (DCHT) and Community Initiative Society (CIS) have been providing emergency health services, mother and child health care, distribution of nutritional food packs, and public health campaign. Up till now, the health service had serve over 200,000 Rohingya people. At present, DCHT and partners such as Peace Wind Japan are providing 24 hours health service to host community and Rohingya people in Hakimpara through the operating one static clinic and mobile clinics.

To enhance the local health system, Dhaka Community Hospital Trust (DCHT) and Community Initiative Society (CIS) in collaboration with MERCY Malaysia established a comprehensive Primary Health Care Centre in Camp No. 15, Jamtoli. This clinic will provide overall primary health care services for the community around the area. The opening ceremony will be officiated by Malaysia High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Her Excellency Mdm. Nur Ashikin binti Mohd Taib on 1 February 2019, Friday at 10:30 AM together with Prof. Quazi Quamruzzaman, Chiarman of Dhaka Community Trust (DCHT), MD Golam Mostofa, Director of Project & Research (DCHT), Dr. Omar Sharif Ibn Hasan, Associate Professor, Paediatric Dept. Dhaka Community Hospital, Ir. Hanafi Ramli, Executive Council Member of MERCY Malaysia and Dr. Nasuha yaacob ,Gynecologist, MERCY Malaysia EXCO.

International Symposium
On

Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Sustainable Emergency Health Care:
Role of Community and Private Sector

COMMUNITY INITIATIVE SOCIETY, THURSDAY, 21ST MARCH, 2019

Today, 21st March, 2019 The International Symposium on “Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Sustainable Emergency Health Care” was held at InterContinental Dhaka which is Premises by Community Initiative Society (CIS) and Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management (A-PAD) Bangladesh.

CIS and A-PAD help to establish a multi-sectoral platform of A-PAD Bangladesh for Disaster Risk Management (DRM) at the national level and strengthening the local community resiliency and the provision of effective and efficient coordination among relevant organizations including private sectors.

Mr. Asaduzzaman Khan, MP,Honorable Minister, Ministry of Home affairs; stated “We stand with you on this enormous challenge you have decided to take on. As disaster risks in Bangladesh continue to grow, new platform are required to help better co-ordination, communities involvement in sustainable disaster risk management.”

Mr Ken Onishi, CEO of Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management (A-PAD), commented; “I think this is really great that Community Initiative Society along with A-PAD Bangladesh and Dhaka Community Hospital Trust, to take on the part of the Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management (A-PAD) which works to develop humanitarian response capacity in disaster affected communities”.

Mr.Golam Faruk Prince, MP, Member of Standing Committee on Ministry of Foreign affairs Bangladesh, said that the international disaster management experts are prepared to work with us to strengthen our infrastructure development to protect our people better.

Prof. Quazi Quamruzzaman, Chairman, CIS said: “Disasters in developing countries exacerbate poverty and are still create obstacles in achieving sustainable development. Creating local, national or International platforms ensures a strong partnership between Community & Private sector. It would be a great sustainable initiative for Disaster Risk Management. We look  forward for a strong measure & global commitment to reduce the risk of disaster.”

The International Symposium was held with the presence of Mr. Asaduzzaman Khan, MP,Honorable Minister, Ministry of Home affairs; Mr.Golam Faruk Prince,MP, Member of Standing Committee on Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bangladesh; Md. Golam Mostofa, Members Secretary & Executive Director of CIS, A-PAD Member Country from Japan, Republic of Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines and Sri Lanka, Participants from the Government of Bangladesh, Embassy of Japan, United Nations, different humanitarian sectors, local NGOs, University delegates and friends from print and electronic media.
